耕す (tagayasu, to plough, to cultivate, to till the field)
Calligraphy by William Reed, Design by CarreMOJI
I introduced this piece of my calligraphy in an earlier post, after which I submitted it to a calligraphy competition sponsored by FUJINGAHO, a major woman's fashion magazine which featured a year long series on CarreMOJI. The magazine also runs features on contemporary furniture and interior designs.
The July edition of FUJIGAHO went on sale today, and it announces the results of their national CarreMOJI calligraphy competition.
I pleased and honored to announce that my calligraphy was selected for Best Interior Prize, and is featured in this issue on page 129. You can download the 2 page article announcing the winners by clicking here at Download FujinGaho Jul09p228 and Download FujinGaho Jul09p229.
The tagayasu piece appears at the top of p. 229.
It will also be on display at the Domani Nihonbashi Interior Store from July 8~14, diagonally across from the Takashimaya Department Store, if you're in Tokyo and would like to see the exhibit for yourself.
Tagayasu will also be featured in the June 3rd Wednesday edition of the DAILY YOMIURI NEWSPAPER, in this week's article from my column for DAIJOB.COM. This article explains the practical wisdom of Zen which is associated with the Ten Ox Herding Pictures, as well as the character of cultivation in the Year of the Ox.
If you have experienced difficulty this year with the economy, this article will give you a whole new perspective on the tilling of the field.
You can download the article here: Download 耕す の記事. Or you can view it online at the DAIJOB.COM site. I will be featuring my CarreMOJI Calligraphy works once a month as part of this column, along with themes from Zen and Japanese culture.
