Waseda University hosted its Cultural Day Festival on November 3rd. We conducted a 2-hour seminar and workshop to introduce our own Quantum Leap, the birth of the SHUN SOU KAI (represented in the characters above), a student club which will be dedicated to studying the themes I introduce here on the Entrepreneurs Creative Edge.
I attended Waseda University as an exchange student in 1972-73, and I am occasionally invited to Waseda as a guest lecturer for the Ohkuma Juku, a group formed by renowed journalists Tahara Soichiro and Takano Hajime. In June of 2008, I gave a lecture on Creativity to 230 students at the Ohkuma Juku, and a small group of students formed what they called the William Reed Study Group, to follow my books and activities. They asked me to do a 2-hour seminar and workshop for them as their campus activity for the Cultural Day Festival. Here is the story.
The campus was packed with people, as various student groups conducted workshops, performances, and maintained booths to promote their club activities, everything from cooking, to dance, to martial arts, to academic clubs.
Our seminar and workshop attracted around 40 participants, including students and adults, and I used the occasion to announce our own Quantum Leap, with the formation of 瞬想会 (Shun Sou Kai), through which I will formally support student members studying with me the themes of the Entrepreneurs Creative Edge.
You can watch a 7 minute excerpt of this presentation (in Japanese), in which I introduce the purpose of our study group, the type of activities we will engage in, and a brief introduction on how we will use brush calligraphy, by clicking here for the Shun Sou Kai Introduction. (if you are on a Windows PC, be sure that you have QuickTime player installed, which you can download for free in the link under Resources). Or your can watch it on YouTube.
Students from other universities are welcome, as are adults. We will meet monthly, and there is no fee for entry or participation. I will be teaching the members of this group about the four themes that form the Entrepreneurs Creative Edge, described in some detail on my website at www.agili.jp, Resonant Words, Personal Branding, Physical Finesse, and Flexible Focus.
With the support of the Ohkuma Juku and Waseda University, and the incredible dedication and energy of the students, from this group will emerge people that have developed high level skills in communication, creativity, energy, and organization, even before they graduate from college. I believe with their exceptional talents, they will not only be in demand when they graduate and enter the job market, but that they will also become leaders in their chosen fields, and contribute remarkably to society. This is why I am dedicated my time and resources to fully supporting these students at no charge.
As we introduced in our first seminar, our monthly meetings will be highly participative, and will include training and feedback in activities ranging from brush calligraphy to personal presentations, from Nanba running to the Mandala Chart. We recruited new members at the workshop, and as the students develop their skills in these areas, I will feature their progress on this blog.
Our first meeting will be for a Nanba Run, including training, and beginners are welcome. We will meet at Kudashita Station at 10 am on Saturday, November 22. After about 30 minutes of training, we will then run 5 km around the beautiful park surrounding the historic Nippon Budokan.
