I have posted two videos that demonstrate the use of Nanba movement or physical finesse, in the martial arts. They are both performed by Tamaki Sensei, a Nanba instructor, with the courtesy of Toho Gakuen, where we teach Nanba.
The first is a clip of Naginata, a halberd that was used as a weapon in Medeival Japan. It is difficult to wield because of its length and particular shape. In Nanba training it is used to develop coordination and finesse in complex physical movement. All of the movements you see here are improvised, yet operate within Nanba principles.
In the second video Tamaki Sensei demonstrates Nanba movement in Karate. Tamaki Sensei is both a Karate Master and a Nanba Instructor at Toho Gakuen. His speed is remarkable. Nanba training enables you to move rapidly without fatigue, because the movements are well connected with little energy loss. The movements are quite beautiful to watch, and actually give you energy to perform.
